This Privacy Policy is issued by Booksfer, LLC, a limited liability company formed under the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, on 28 February 2025, with its registered office at 131 Continental Drive, Suite 305, Newark, DE 19713, United States (“Booksfer”, “we”, “us”, “our”).

Booksfer, LLC is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us about any privacy matter at info@booksfer.com.

2. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to personal information processed by Booksfer, LLC through:

• this corporate website at booksfer.com;
• the reading platform we operate, including its web reader, author studio and mobile applications; and
• business correspondence with us by email.

It does not apply to third-party websites or services that we link to. Those services operate under their own privacy policies.

3. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account details — name or display name, email address, password (stored only as a cryptographic hash), and any profile information you choose to add.
• Author information — where you publish on our platform: pen name, biography, the works you upload, and the payout details needed to pay you.
• Content you create — manuscripts, chapters, comments, reviews and reading lists.
• Correspondence — the content of support tickets and emails you send us, and our replies.

Information we collect automatically

• Usage data — the titles you open, reading position and progress, session length, and the features you use.
• Device and connection data — IP address, browser and operating system, device type, language and time zone.
• Diagnostics — crash reports and error logs.

Information from third parties

• Payment processors — confirmation of a transaction, the last four digits of a card and its brand. We do not receive or store full card numbers.
• App stores — where you subscribe or purchase through a mobile app store, we receive the transaction status but not your payment credentials.

4. How we use information

We use personal information to:

• create and maintain your account and authenticate you;
• deliver the reading service, including syncing your library and reading position across your devices;
• process purchases and subscriptions, and calculate and pay author earnings;
• recommend titles and improve discovery on the platform;
• respond to support requests and communicate about your account;
• keep the service secure, detect abuse and fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service;
• meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising.

5. Legal bases for processing

Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or comparable law applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

• Performance of a contract — to provide the account and reading service you asked for, and to pay authors.
• Legitimate interests — to secure the platform, prevent abuse, understand how the service is used, and improve it.
• Legal obligation — to meet tax, accounting and regulatory requirements.
• Consent — for optional communications and any non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.

6. Sharing and disclosure

We share personal information only where it is necessary, and only with:

• Service providers acting on our instructions — hosting and infrastructure, email delivery, payment processing, and error monitoring. They may process data only for us and are bound by contract.
• Payment providers and app stores, to complete transactions you initiate.
• Professional advisers — accountants and lawyers, under a duty of confidence.
• Authorities, where we are legally required to disclose, or where disclosure is necessary to protect the rights or safety of users or the public.
• A successor entity, if Booksfer, LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We will notify affected users before their data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Content you publish publicly on our platform — a published work, a public profile, a review — is visible to other users by design.

7. International transfers

Booksfer, LLC is established in the United States, and our infrastructure providers may process data in the United States and in the European Union. Where personal data is transferred out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, and we require our processors to apply equivalent protection.

8. How long we keep data

• Account data — for as long as your account is active.
• After account deletion — we delete or anonymise personal data within 90 days, except where we must keep records longer.
• Transaction and tax records — retained for the period required by United States tax and accounting law.
• Diagnostics and logs — normally retained for up to 12 months.

9. Security

We protect data in transit with TLS encryption and at rest using encryption provided by our infrastructure providers. Passwords are stored only as salted cryptographic hashes and are never recoverable in plain text. Access to production systems is restricted to personnel who need it and is subject to authentication controls.

No system is completely secure. If a breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights, we will notify you and the competent supervisory authority as required by applicable law.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have your data deleted;
• restrict or object to certain processing;
• receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format;
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
• lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, write to info@booksfer.com. We respond within 30 days. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting on a request.

California residents have the rights to know, delete, correct and opt out of sale or sharing of personal information under the CCPA as amended. Booksfer, LLC does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in that law.

11. Children

Our platform is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Where local law sets a higher age of digital consent, that age applies. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact info@booksfer.com and we will delete it.

12. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and local storage that are strictly necessary to operate the service — to keep you signed in, remember your reading preferences and protect against abuse. We use a limited amount of aggregated analytics to understand how the platform performs. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, though some parts of the service will not work without the necessary ones.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes or as the law requires. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. If a change materially affects how we handle your personal data, we will give notice on the platform or by email before it takes effect.
